This is a difficult question to answer. Of course, in campaign, you can. The multiplayer on Halo: Combat Evolved, however, you cannot. Yet there is a game for the PC called Halo: Custom Edition, in which you can somewhat play against the computer. Some people have made maps with advanced AI that will attack you on sight. They are usually very fun, but they are also very complex and difficult to create.

I have halo one and ther is no way to play as a grunt its just single player as mastercheif and then multiplayer as a spartan. Maybe you can in halo 2 or so forth or maybe there is some kind of mod but no, you can't play as a grunt.

In Halo 1-3 you can play as him you dont have to do anything special to get him

Yes.it's based during halo 1 so is halo wars.( but that wasn't really a halo game)
