You will need an Iron Pickaxe (or better). If you mine it with a wood/stone pickaxe it will break and give you nothing.
You have to firstly find a diamond ore then you can mine it, to do this you cannot use a stone or wood pickaxe, you need a diamond, iron or gold pickaxe.
To mine diamond ore, you must have at least an iron pickaxe. This will give you a diamond. Do not use stone or wood pickaxes. I think gold will work too.
Mine it using a pickaxe (wood or better), then pick up the drop.
Once you find a diamond ore, you will need either an iron pickaxe or a diamond pickaxe to mine it. If you try to mine it with a wood, stone, or gold pick, the diamond will simply disappear. To make an iron pickaxe, you first need to smelt three iron ores in a furnace. Use the iron ingots to make a pick: Top row: Iron ingot, Iron ingot, Iron ingot. Middle row: blank, stick, blank bottom row: blank, stick, blank

Anything except wood.

In Minecraft, various minerals/ores need a certain quality of pickaxe to mine them: To mine a stone block and get a drop, you need to use a wooden pickaxe or better. To mine a cobblestone block and get a drop, you need to use a wooden pickaxe or better. To mine a coal ore block and get a drop, you need to use a wooden pickaxe or better. To mine an iron ore block and get a drop, you need to use a stone pickaxe or better. To mine a lapis lazuli block and get a drop, you need to use a stone pickaxe or better. To mine a gold ore block and get a drop, you need to use an iron pickaxe or better. To mine a diamond ore block and get a drop, you need to use an iron pickaxe or better. To mine an obsidian block and get a drop, you need to use a diamond pickaxe or better. (this list is not complete) Quality order of Pickaxes (and other tools) *1 is the worst, 4 is the best* 1. Wood 2. Stone 3. Iron 4. Diamond You can also make tools out of gold, but they have a very low durability (even worse than wood) Gold pickaxes can successfully mine coal ore, iron ore, gold ore, lapis lazuli ore, diamond ore, stone, and cobblestone. There may be more. They also are very quick, but most likely not worth it.
If you can find a village, steal wood from them, break it into sticks, and create a wooden pickaxe. Then, once you have enough stone, make a stone pickaxe.
Go into Google and type in minecraftwiki.com and then click on the link, then go to the search bar in Minecraft Wiki and type in pickaxe.
One stick and two material(ex in weakest to strongest) wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond)
You just left click blocks. You can only get things like dirt and logs with your hands. You need to make a wooden pickaxe to mine stone and coal, to mine iron you need a stone pickaxe, to mine diamonds and redstone you need a iron pickaxe, and to mine obsidian you need a diamond pickaxe. Each type of pickaxe and break the blocks that lower level picks can mine (like iron picks can break all the blocks that stone blocks can break). Shovels and axes just break their respective blocks faster(axe mines wood faster, shovel mines dirt/sand faster).
Well first you have to have the following things: Stone pickaxe ( or higher ) Furnace Coal or wood ( To go in the furnace ) ...Preferably coal Spade ( optional ) 1. Dig through the dirt/sand (optional with your spade) until you hit stone 2. Mine the stone until you find iron 3. Mine the iron and return to the top 4. Put the iron into the furnace with coal/wood at the bottom 5. In the out section there should be iron bars :) ( Called Iron ingots ) Hope I helped :)
