You can certainly connect your PSP to your computer via a USB cable to transfer files to and from it, and you can use the PSP's WLAN function to connect to a wireless connection point. But you don't use the computer as a bridge between PSP and internet, the PSP needs to connect to the router.
There might be homebrew software that can do it though.

To get pics on your psp you hook up your 2.0 usb to the usb port on the psp and the computer you open up psp document which is under my computer then go to the removable disc drive that it is under and open folder(photo) drag the photos you want to the photo folder opened for the psp and it will download them to it.
what? there is no way to wire up a psp to a windows xp computer for internet! its called a wireless router!
ok i do not no how you r trying but this is how i did it. buy a router hook it up and then set up the cannection on you psp and it should work.ps it does not work on all routers i had to get 2 of them.
It doesn't just go to network internet connection scan for router(if have)or buy router and hook it up free of charge or just go to youtube and see how to hook it up to the internet if you cant figure it out.Good Luck!!!!
