Not at all that means you can use the board as a controller to experience more out of the game a good example would be Mario and sonic at the olympic winter games its compatible with the board but you don't need it it just allows you to get more out of the game in that game it lets you play some events only with 1 player but with help with the wii remote you can play on the board.
