"Yes, the playstation is 'region free' on games. This means American games (region 1) can be played on a UK console (region 2). The playstation is only 'region locked' on movies." This is wrong, PS1 and 2 are not region free on games, for a UK system you must have a PAL formatted disc for it to play, American and canadiam disc and consoles are formatted differently therefor you will not be able to play them. The PS3 however, sony decided to make region free games but it is still region locked on DVD's.
No, the games are region locked. Like the games I bought in the US have the number 1 on the side, so your PS3 would have to be region code 1.This answer is infact, wrong. The PS3 is region free. Meaning games from all around the world can be played on it. The only things which wont work on your ps3 because of a region lock are PS1 games, PS2 games and Blu-ray films.Sources: I have been abroad numerous times and bought PS3 games. They have all worked.
No due to region locks on the console. This is also the case with the Wii, however the PS3 is not region locked
No. PlayStation 2s are region-coded, so games released in one area (North America) cannot be played on another region's (Europe) consoles without the use of a modchip.
Im sorry to tell you that the U.S PS3 games will not work on UK PS3 console, and the reason for that is -The PS3 games are made with regions. The US PS3 games are made for region 1 and UK PS3 games are region 2... Therefore the region 1 ps3 console will only play region 1 ps3 games, just like region 2 ps3 console will only play region 2 ps3 games. Hope that makes any sense. If you have more questions just message me. The reason is not region coding, but it is the USA TV design system is different from the others and games made to work for the USA system do not all have the ability to be changed and be played on the UK and Europe TVs. The affect is the same as if they were region coded except that region coding fixes also will not work because it is the TVs that can not play the games and not the PS3
Yes, a Region 3 PlayStation 3 game will work on a Region 1 PlayStation 3 system. The PlayStation 3 does not have regional lockouts for PlayStation 3 games. It does however have regional lockout for PlayStation games, PlayStation 2 games, DVD movies, and Blu-ray movies.
the ps3 is region free for ps3 games, not for ps1 and ps2 games tho
Probably not. Most PlayStation games are region locked, just as movies are. New Zealand is region 4 and the US is region 1, therefore your American games will be incompatable with a New Zealand PS2, and a New Zealand PlayStation first edition, for that matter.
I doubt it. The PS1 and PS2 are region-encoded, so only games from the same region as the console will work. Yes, im 99% sure that ps2 and ps1 games are not region encoded.

All Sony PlayStation 3's are Universal Consoles, which means they can run all games, and movies. However some games and movies are region protected meaning that they can only be played on the console that is made for that region.
Import games are generally video games imported from a different region (for example, from Japan to the United States). Although some video game companies have taken steps to prevent this from happening, such as region locking their consoles so only games from the region the console was purchased can be used, some game companies, such as Sony with the PlayStation 3, have allowed their consoles to be region free.
Yes. For whatever reason, Australia and Europe are considered to be in the same region, so regional lockouts do not come into play.

Yes, DS games are not region-locked. Any console will play any games.
PSP games are not region locked, any game will work on any region's console. Also, PSP games from England are just EU region PSP games anyway so are the same as you'd buy in Ireland.
No. Playstations are region-locked; they cannot play discs from different regions without modification.
