4 tbsp.
1 tbsp = 0.5 oz
1 oz = 2 tbsp
In US measure 32 fluid ounces are equal to one quart. One ounce is 0.03 quart or as thirty-two (32) ounces equals 1 quart, so there is 1/32 of a quart in an ounce. But you need to know that 1 Imperial quart = 40 Imperial fluid ounces. Also this relates only to fluid ounces. There are two different kinds of ounces, ounces of weight/mass and ounces of volume (fluid). This can change when you are using the ounces to measure a non-liquid such as flour or sugar since the weight of dry items is not the same as their volume. An ounce of volume is called a "fluid ounce." A quart measures volume not weight. In order to convert quarts to solid (weight)ounces or back, You need to know what is being measured.
2 Tablespoons of dry, ground coffee is 0.35 oz. according to Polly's Gourmet Coffee.
Therefore 1 oz of dry ground coffee is 5.7 tbsp, or rounded: 6 tbsp.
Polly's numbers work out to 0.175 oz./tbsp or 5.0 grams/tbsp, but is an estimate because an excellent report (http://stumptowncoffee.com/a-scale-is-not-just-for-coffee-geeks/) shows the density (volume divided by weight) of different types of coffee beans varies greatly::
"With the French Roast, five of the [1 tbsp] measures weighed anywhere from 16.9 to 19.8 grams. The Ethiopia Duromina measurements ranged from 23.8 to 25.8 grams. This was a bit alarming. I was not able to hit the target weight of 21 grams."
Polly would have calculated 25 grams.
I buy 12 oz bags of coffee and use 4 1/2 tbsp in my 20 fl.oz. (4 "cup") coffeemaker - about 2/3 of the 2 tbsp/6 oz. the professional tasters use, but close to the 4 3/4 tbsp you can calculate from Starbuck's site when it tells you how many cups of coffee you can make from one of their 12 oz. bags.
Polly's claim of 0.175 oz./tbsp. means that 4 1/2 tbsp per 20 flu brew would mean I use up a bag after 16 brews, and that's about right!
Those answering "2" to the question are confusing fluid oz. with weight ounces.
you would only need a few tablespoons of ground coffee at most
In one ounce there are two tablespoons. In an 11.5 ounce package of coffee there would be 23 tablespoons of coffee.
There are around 4.5 tablespoons in 1.5 oz of ground coffee.
Most auto/filter type coffee makers recommend 2 tablespoons of fine grind coffee per 8 ounce cup.
5 tablespoons, for every cup you measure 1 tablespoon
There are about 75 tablespoons in one pound of coffee.
80-100 coffee beans make 1 tablespoon ground coffee
There are approximately 1 tablespoon of coarse ground coffee in 8.5 grams.
