We know that 8 tablespoons of butter = 1/2 cup. Let x be the number of tablespoons in 1/3 cup.

(1/3)/(1/2) = x/8

1/3 * 2/1 = x/8

8*(2/3) = (x/8)*8

16/3 = x

5 1/3 = x

Therefore, 1/3 cup of butter is 5 1/3 tablespoons.

There are 16 tablespoons in a cup of anything (doesn't matter if it's butter, milk or sand).

1/3 of 16 is 5.33

A US cup is 16 tablespoons.

.33 cup is therefore 5.28 tablespoons (or about 5 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon)
