Why does peeta form an alliance with the careers in the hunger games?

At the beginning of the games, Peeta joins the careers because he thinks it gives him a better chance at winning. He does quite well until the careers either see though him or finds out his plan, and injures him, leaving him for dead. Then Katniss finds him.

∙ 12y agoThe benefit and the plan in Peeta's mind when he joined the Careers was that when Peeta joined, he would stop the onther people from killing Katniss. Peeta also got to stay safe with the whole tribe of trained killers. Peeta got to find out the inner-workings of the Careers and find out each player's mind-set and skill-set.

∙ 9y agoThe Careers allow Peeta into their alliance as he knows whereabouts Katniss would be, he knows her snares and her traps. They believe that he is their best way of finding her and after they find and kill her, they can kill him - that doesn't exactly go to plan, though.
