Why do you think Peeta asked to be coached seperately?
At first you are led to believe that Peeta asks to be coached separately because Katniss scored higher than him with the Gamemakers. Also because of the closeness of The Games. Later you suspect that another reason is because he wanted to talk strategy with Haymitch. Peeta wanted to talk to Haymitch about telling his love for Katniss. After their interviews Katniss is angry because she wasn't told, but Haymitch informs her that it was right that she not know. She needed to act surprised. She's not a good actress so this way she was genuinely surprised.
Is Peeta's crush real or just a strategy?
it depends on the person you ask. personally, i think Peeta's crush on katniss is real. i think this because Peeta says that he's liked katniss since he first saw her. although, his crush could be "just a strategy"

The Rebels decide to rescue Peeta in Mockingjay because without Peeta they won't have Katniss's help. Katniss is severely depressed with him in the Capitol's hands and she can't think straight while Peeta is with them. That is the only reason why they rescued Peeta. Not because they care about him. They only cared about Katniss because she is the Mockingjay.
