Psychologically, people have a need to feel important. One of the ways people get this feeling is by convincing themselves that they, their possessions, their interests, etc. are superior to those of others. If they have anything at all to base this on, no matter how trivial or ridiculous this might seem, they will use that as evidence. For example, a child might say that his toy is better than his brother's because it is a different color; the brother will then use the same claim to prove that his toy is the superior one. (It's not always the same claim, though.) This same tendency applies to people of all ages; there are some seemingly childish behaviors we never truly outgrow. (In fact, it is possible that the very concept of "childishness" is based on this.)

As your older brother, I've been where you are—maybe not exactly, but close enough.

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
