as guy sensai says - the lotus is a double edged sword - meaning it injures both the target and the user.

kakashi taught sasuke the chidori for a few reasons

1. sasuke has lightning style chakra

2. and the sharingan meaning he can react to a counter attack

3. it wont injure him like the lotus does

also in terms of a story telling point of view, having two main characters with the same jutsu would just be boring
