Pg 282 "The Goblins were the foes of all, and at their coming all other quarrels were forgotten. Their only hope was to lure the goblins into the valley between the arms of the Mountain; and themselves to man the great spurs that struck south and east."
They were fighting for their lives. Chasing the dwarves and Bilbo, they ran right into three huge armies- the dwarves, the elves and humans. Beor, too, of course, who is an army himself. And though they were all quarreling, the goblins were a common enemy, so they all ganged up on the unsuspecting group.
If you are talking about The Hobbit then...
THe wargs and goblins were meeting in the woods. After this they were rescued from a burning fate by eagles which eventually set them free to continue on their quest.
I hope this helped :)
They all wanted a share of the great treasure that was now unguarded

It was the Battle of Five Armies. The armies were the humans, elves and dwarves against the wargs and the goblins.
One of biblo's enemies was the elf king, Thranduil.
1. The Elven army from Mirkwood 2. The army of Men from Laketown 3. The army of Dwarves from the Iron Hills 4. The army of orcs from the Misty Mountains 5. The army of Eagles from the Misty Mountains is the fifth army, not the wargs as previously listed, which are part of the orc army.
With Smaug dead, the treasure is up for grabs. Dain Ironfoot and the Dwarves, Thranduil and the Elves, and the Men of Laketown all learn this and fight each other for it. Eventually a Goblin army arrives out of the Misty Mountains to battle. The Dwarves, Elves, and Men join forces to fight the Goblins.
If you are referring to the book "The Hobbit," we aren't told exactly. We do know that elves and dwarves had a long-standing grudge against each other. But it does seem as if the elves were trying to trap them, or at least to create an excuse for taking them prisoner. The elves in "The Hobbit" were more like the elves in Celtic folklore - silly, tricky, deceitful little fairies - than the regal, mysterious elves in "The Lord of the Rings." Legolas was a Mirkwood elf, one of the people that the dwarves encountered in "The Hobbit," and was not considered the equal of the Lorien elves.
It was the Battle of Five Armies. The armies were the humans, elves and dwarves against the wargs and the goblins.
There are the hobbits, men, dwarves and elves. There are also goblins, trolls and giants.
Elves Dwarves Men Goblins Isengard Mordor
When The Hobbit was written, I don't think that Tolkien had imagined that the Orcs/Goblins were derived from the Elves. In many ways the Goblins of the Misty Mountains were somewhat to the Silvan Elves of the Woodland Realm: - They both lived underground - They both were suspicious of outsiders (especially dwarves) How they differed: - Goblins preferred the dark places and shunned daylight, Elves lived underground to avoid detection - The Elves were beautiful, the goblins ugly - The Elves only greed was for wine and song, while the Goblins were just plain greedy This is just on the surface too. Later we are told that the Goblins/Orcs are actually Elves that were twisted and corrupted by Morgoth, Sauron's master.
The Battle of Five Armies have the elves, dwarves and men on one side. The other side is the goblins and wargs. The eagles and Beorn also participate.
The dwarves and the elves dont get along.
Bilbo missed how the eagles and Beornings helped to turn the tide against the Wargs and Goblins and towards the eventual victory of the Elves, Men, and Dwarves.
Lots of races populate Middle Earth, but the most famous ones are : -> Elves -> Humans -> Dwarves -> Hobbits -> Goblins
One of biblo's enemies was the elf king, Thranduil.
the Battle of five arms really consisted of more but the 5 initial ones were the Dwarves The Elves The Men The Goblins The Wars The eagles
The battle took a turn in favor of the men, elves and dwarves when the eagles arrived. They threw the goblins off the mountain side.
As dwarves and elves are fictional and fantasy creatures there is no comparison.
