There is more than one song called "Sailing" but probably the biggest hit was by Christopher Cross in 1980. It was a number-one single. The song was a phenomenal success, winning GRAMMY Awards for Song of the Year, Arrangement of the Year, and helping Cross win the Best New Artist award. The album it came from won Best Album of the Year. VH1 named this the greatest "soft rock" music song of all time.

The song is probably the Grammy-award winning "Sailing" (1980) by Christopher Cross, from his 1979 debut album Christopher Cross.

The lyrics include "It's not far down to paradise (to never-never land, back to sanity) and "Sailing...takes me away, to where I've always heard it could be."

All depends!! There are two different songs by that title that made the charts. One was recorded by Rod Stewart, the other by Christopher Cross!!

Here is the Rod Stewart song:

I am sailing, I am sailing,

home again 'cross the sea.

I am sailing, stormy waters,

to be near you, to be free.

I am flying, I am flying,

like a bird 'cross the sky.

I am flying, passing high clouds,

to be with you, to be free.

Can you hear me, can you hear me

thro' the dark night, far away,

I am dying, forever trying,

to be with you, who can say.

Can you hear me, can you hear me,

thro' the dark night far away.

I am dying, forever trying,

to be with you, who can say.

We are sailing, we are sailing,

home again 'cross the sea.

We are sailing stormy waters,

to be near you, to be free.

Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free.

Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free,

Oh Lord.

And here is Christopher Cross' sailing:

It's not far down to paradise

At least it's not for me

And if the wind is right you can sail away

And find tranquility

The canvas can do miracles

Just you wait and see

Believe me

It's not far to never never land

No reason to pretend

And if the wind is right you can find the joy

Of innocence again

The canvas can do miracles

Just you wait and see

Believe me

Sailing

Takes me away

To where I've always heard it could be

Just a dream and the wind to carry me

And soon I will be free

Fantasy

It gets the best of me

When I'm sailing

All caught up in the reverie

Every word is a symphony

Won't you believe me

It's not far back to sanity

At least it's not for me

And when the wind is right you can sail away

And find serenity

The canvas can do miracles

Just you wait and see

Believe me
