In the UK we call the US sidewalk the 'pavement' and what the US calls the pavement (the paved area) is called the 'road' in the UK. However in both cultures I believe the edge of the pavement is called the curb. This may be just an end of the paved area or may be demarcated by a set of curb stones which raise the sidewalk above the height of the road surface.

Sports were not very important in Harrison's day. Everybody rode horses and men learned to hunt and fish. People did more walking since there were no cars and the roads were few and mostly not paved. In short, Harrison did not even know about football or Basketball and Baseball was a kid's game.
Supposedly these places are the cross roads: The most well-known is at Clarksdale MS at Hwy 61 & 49, and is where all the tourists go. The second is at Old Hwy 8 and Dockery Road. The old dirt hwy is still there a little south of the paved road. It definitely looks like the cross roads. Google map it with satelite and look for yourself. It's a well Known fact that Ike Zinnerman (real spelling is unknown) taught Robert to play, when he retreated to his Birthplace of Hazlehurst MS. Ike was known in the Beauregard community for playing in the cemetery at night. Robert was in Copiah county for at least a year before returning with his new-found talent. If there is a real "crossroads" it is somewhere in Copiah county around Hazlehurst, not on the delta.
