Thror was the grandfather of Thorin, the leader of the dwarves in the adventure. It was Thror that made the map that they used to find the 'back door' to the mountain. Thror also passed the key to the door along with the map to his son Thrain. These were given to Gandalf, who gave them to Thorin. Thror also possessed one of the Seven Dwarven Rings of Power, but when he entered Moria he handed it to Thrain.
He's the nickname for Thorin Oakensheild. Thorin is the leader of the dwarves and heir to the title 'King under the Mountain.' He has not seen Lonely Mountain since his people were pushed from it when he was but a child. Although the dwarves look to him for leadership, he really provides very little until the end. It is Gandalf and Bilbo that lead the group across the world to Lonely Mountain. Thorin shows himself to be nothing but stubborn. He refuses to make good with the Elvenking. When they get to the mountain, he wants Bilbo to go in first and does not enter the lair himself until he sees that everyone else is all right. His worst moments come near the end of the tale, when he refuses to make a treaty with the men and elves, and he threatens Bilbo. It is only in death that he sees the error of his ways and apologizes.
I believe that Thorin looked like any other dwarf; short-esk long beard and carries a dangerous weapon. They are coming out with a movie for "The Hobbit" December 14 of 2012!

Yeah, there isn't much in the way of descriptions of the dwarves in The Hobbit, except that Balin was "old-looking" and Bombur was very fat, and the colours of the beards of Dwalin (blue), Balin (white), Kili and Fili (yellow). Thorin was "important" and wore a blue hood with a long silver tassel.
Since he died about 60 years before The Lord of the Rings starts, no, he's not actually in it. He's mentioned a couple of times, though.
Thorin Oakenshield
Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thrain, son of Thror, King Under the Mountain.
It would be at the Battle of the Five Armies, almost the end of the book. He and his brother die defending their uncle Thorin Oakenshield.
Thorin Oakenshield is a dwarf. He normally wears a sky-blue hood and has a beard. He might have a resemblance to Gimli (Gimli being Gloin's son, and Gloin is the third cousin of Thorin)
That would be 'Ori'

Bilbo Baggins was famously a hobbit, not a dwarf.
Thorin Oakenshield was created in 1937.
Bilbo Baggins was his name. Thorin Oakenshield was the leader of the dwarves.
The characters Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Gandalf, Gollum, and Smaug appear in "The Hobbit," a fantasy novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The story follows Bilbo Baggins as he embarks on an adventurous journey with a group of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield to reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug.
Thorin Oakenshield became the leader of the expedition in "The Hobbit." He was a dwarf prince seeking to reclaim his kingdom and treasure from the dragon Smaug.
The goblins were not able to capture Gandalf, who killed several of them when they tried to grab him.
There are many versions of this book, and they all have different page numbers. However, Thorin Oakenshield died in chapter 18, The Return Journey.
With Gandalf and the dwarf Thorin Oakenshield, and his company of twelve further dwarves.
Assuming this is a reference to The Hobbit (and if not, be more specific!): They still sang songs of the days of the King under the Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield's grandfather.
Because they changed the story to make the movie.
