David Bickler got the job singing for Bud Light three years ago after a musician friend tipped him that Anheuser-Busch was looking for "an '80s rock guy." (Related story: Anheuser-Busch's silly 'Mr.' ads hit a high note with viewers) Bickler, 50, sang with Survivor from 1978-84 (and again from 1993-99). He takes his commercial singing career seriously but plays the role to the hilt. In the ads, he is shown in a recording studio, wincing when he hits the high notes and pumping his fists in the finales. A bad wig covers his stylish cropped hair. "That's part of my role, to provide that exclamation point," says Bickler, a North Dakota native who now lives here. "I get into the spirit. I want it to be as good as it could be." His biggest challenge in singing about Bud Light's "Real Men of Genius" is not breaking up when announcer Pete Stacker lauds 12,000-calorie taco salads and body-painted sports fans with rainbow wigs. Bickler's favorite: Mr. Pickled Pigs Feet Eater. "I still laugh at that one, and I've heard them all a lot." The single father of a 3-year-old is laughing all the way to the bank. The ad campaign is expected to run for a while. Bickler gets a royalty on the ads as they air and on CD sales.
