Jean Harlow sang the original melody in 1933 written be Rodgers and Hart. The lyrics were suited for a prayer she was to sing. They later changed the lyrics and title to give it more commercial flair, and added punch. Connee Boswell was one of the first people, if not the first person, to sing it with the new lyrics.
