the actress Bea Bernadette ( who also, not so well known, voiced Wilma Flintstone) played the role. it so happened she died while the show was in progress, and there were changes effected in the plot- Uncle Joe, previously a comic-relief character was promoted to Hotel Manager. The familiar ( Mommy) actress- June Lockhart, was introduced as a female doctor and the senior female lead. The presence of a female Doctor in what was essentially a situation comedy was, for the time, a bit odd. The theme song was altered to ( It is run by Joe, come and be his Guest!) following the death of Bea Bernadette who was known as Kate on the show. The name of the Hostelry was the Shady Rest.
