Howard McNear played Floyd Lawson in all except one of the episodes of The Andy Griffith Show that featured the character (80 of 81). During the run of the show, McNear suffered a massive stroke, which rendered his left side and both legs unusable. When he returned to the show, he was always seen sitting down, only moving his right arm and hand, and spoke with labored and slurred speech. McNear died in January of 1969 from complications of stroke.
