Known rather as the Jeff Beck Group, there were two incarnations of the group. The first formed in London in 1966, and was comprised of Jeff Beck on guitar, Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass, and Aynsley Dunbar on drums. In early 1968, Aynsley Dunbar was replaced briefly by Roy Cook and then Micky Waller. They were often joined on tour my session musician, and piano extraordinare, Nicky Hopkins. The Jeff Beck Group is what gave both Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood their big breaks, as they would later go on to be members of the Faces together. Rod Stewart has since experienced a successful solo career and Ronnie Wood has been a member of the Rolling Stones since the late 1970's. Drummer Micky Waller was eventually replaced by Tony Newman. This version of the Jeff Beck Group played on Donovan's single "Goo Goo Barabajagal (Love is Hot)" and released albums Truth and Beck-Ola. The band dissolved on the eve of the Woodstock Festival, at which they were scheduled to appear. They were together for a total of three years, and released three UK singles and as previously mentioned, two albums. In 1970, Jeff Beck reformed the group with vocalist and guitarist Bobby Tench, keyboardist Max Middleton, drummer Cozy Powell, and bassist Clive Chaman. The band would release two albums, Rough and Ready and Jeff Beck Group and tour behind these records, before disbanding. Tench, Middleton, and Chaman came together again with the band Hummingbird.
