Nana Kobina Nketsia IV was the paramount chief of the Essikado Traditional Area also known as British Sekondi. He was educated at mfantsipim school and obtained his Ph.D in 1959 from the univ. of Oxford. He was the only chief who backed the Ghanaian nationalist movement to the hilt throwing his weight behind Kwame Nkrumah's CPP. He became the only chief to be imprisoned in the nationalist movement and the only person who was not only tortured but also served the longest period incarcerated.
