Meshak Gardiner is one of many main characters who feature in the book/play, Coram Boy. He is a disturbed and possibly mentally challenged 15 year old who has a father that buys and sells children. He is supposedly in love with "Angel". A vision he often has of a young beautiful woman. The image originates in the young Melissa Milcote, who is in an arranged marriage with the rich heir to the county, Alexander Ashbrook. Meshak believes that Melissa is his "Angel" and that she loves him. The real woman has only ever seen Meshak spying on her.
