Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is highly regarded as quite possibly the most famous Russian composer of all time. He composed the extremely popular "Swan Lake", "Nutcracker" and "Sleeping Beauty" compositions which are still heavily used and remembered well to this day. Tchaikovsky was 53 when he passed in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Everybody has it's own opinion about 'famous': There are a lot of Russian Composers which deserve this title. Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov or Rachmaninoff. I prefer Tchaikovsky, so for me personal I give him my vote.

I've been a second violinist for seven years at the KCO, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, I had the pleasure to work with the greatest classical musicians of our time, playing magnificent work of great composers. Ouverture 1812 is genius.
