Who designed The Simpsons?

Matt, of course, created (drew) the characters initially but he does not currently draw and/or animate the characters for the show, so technically the answer of simply "Matt Groening" is not correct.

He is credited currently as naturally "Creator" & "Developed By" but when it comes to the episodes themselves, he's credited as "Executive Producer", "Creative Consultant" or just "Consultant" for the show.

When it comes to the literal, 'pen-to-paper' (so to speak), physical creation of the episodes, Matt does not do that.

The answer to this this question can be found by watching the credits for the episodes and read who the animators are currently and in the past. Obviously after all these years there are far too many to list them all here.

There are loads of writers to The Simpsons, Matt Groening created them but the actual story episodes are not written by him. One episode Ricky Gervais wrote but otherwise there is a whole board of writers who work everday of the week for up to eight hours.
