black betty was originally written by a soul singer named muddy ledbeter in 1918 about a black cleaner. it was then covered by ram jam in the 60's and was almost banned as it was considered racist (which is ironic as it was written by a black man about a black woman) it was covered yet again by spiderbait around 2005-06

The original song was made famous by Ram Jam but Spiderbait did the most recent cover of Black Betty.
