The initial Beatles lineup consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar), Paul McCartney (second lead guitar), George Harrison (lead guitar), Stuart Sutcliffe (bass guitar) and Tommy Moore (drums); this was the band that first left Liverpool to tour Scotland with singer Johnny Gentle late that spring. (McCartney, Harrison and Sutcliffe all briefly adopted stage names: Paul Ramon, Carl Harrison and Stu De Stael.)
Moore quit after they returned, but left his drums behind; the band brought them to shows, inviting members of the audience to give them a try. (This usually backfired badly.) Pete Best joined them just in time to go to Hamburg, Germany in August!!!

The principle members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr (real name, Ritchie Starkey).

Former members were Stuart Sutcliffe (Bass Guitar) and Pete Best (drums). There were several other people who played the odd gig with the band in their early days.
