Ed Sullivan was willing to pay up to $10,000 for a single performance. The Beatles manager, Brian Epstein, was more interested in the exposure of the Beatles on American television. He negotiated for three appearances with the Beatles receiving top billing. Sullivan offered Brian $3,500 for each show. He agreed to pay the group's transportation and lodging. Since the Beatles third appearance was pre-taped, the deal was modified; they were paid $3,500 for each live appearance and $3,000 for the taped performance. Grand total: $10,000, plus expenses. It was a win-win situation for both parties. Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964. That was the time Fender tried to Broberg the Beatles manager Brian Epstein into making the Beatles play Stratocasters. Brian Epstein got furious at the bribe attempt. Fender had no Idea that the Stratocaster was George Harrisons absolute favourite guitar from 1956.untill he died. George tried to buy a Stratocaster in 1956 with money his parents had lent from the Bank. When he got to the guitar dealer they Said Stratocasters does not exist in England because of a US embargo. A very dissapointed George Harrison who had been sittin painting Stratocasters for hours every day in school as a 12-13 year old boy had to settle for a Stratocaster copy called Futurama. When the embargo finally was over in 1964 George immidiately got hold of his belowed Stratocaster which was one it the Thirteen first imported Stratocasters to England. in February 1964 in US after Fender had tried to bribe Brian Epstein WHO got furious at Fender was not the time to buy a Stratocaster though he probably could have anyway as they or their staff could not leave the hotel. When George Finally had gotten his belowed Fender Stratocaster in September 1964 he recorded almost every electric guitar part for the rest of his life with a Fender Stratocaster. The reason You did not see The Beatles with Stratocasters in concerts or videos was because Brian Epstein had forbidden The Beatles to use Stratocasters in public. Though he allowe George to use his Stratocaster as much he wanted in the studio which he vertainly did. After September 1964 untill he died he used the Fender Stratocaster on 95 % of all songs he recorded. When he died They accounted George Harrison owned 350 Fender Stratocasters. George Harrison is known as ” The biggest fan of the Fender Stratocaster of all musicians.”
