The Beatles first major concert tour was in Great Britain in early 1963 as a support act on the Helen Shapiro Tour. Yes, they were her support Act in early 1963 and not the other way around. Until that time, they had mostly played in and were known in the Liverpool and Hamburg areas. It wasn't until their first major hit, Please Please Me, which rose to the top of the charts, that they broke off from the Helen Shapiro tour. They then skyrocketed as a major force in music and of course a headlining act.
