The Moon is moving slowly away from the Earth at about 3.8 cm a year. At that rate, its orbital distance will take 10 million years to double. Eventually it would reach equilibrium, as is suspected of Pluto and Charon, with both bodies presenting the same face in rotation and co-revolution. Unless something unusual affected its stability, it would continue to exist as long as the Earth.

As far aw we know there is no life on the moon so in this regard there is nothing to die.

The moon can be blown into many pieces by an asteroid and possibly by human created weapons. This would have disastrous consequences for the earth.

The moon could be made invisible by altering its orbit so that it is always in the earth's shadow. However there is no current technology capable of accomplishing this.
