Dragostea din tei or the Numa Numa song was released on the 19th April 2004. Recorded by the Moldovan pop group O-Zone, it shot to international fame when a video of American Gary Brolsma lipsyncing and make gestures to the beat of the song was released on to the web. So far this video has had over 18 million hits. The record shot to the #1 spot on the Eurochart Hot 100, where it remained for 12 weeks between June and early September 2004. It reached number 3 in the United Kingdom and 72 on the U.S. Pop 100, and it was number one for 15 weeks in France. As well as being covered by many other singers, and charting in other countries.
I sure hope they gave Mr Brolsma a cut of the royalties, without him it would not have been such a hit.
