There were a couple Cartoons made on the Lord of the Rings, but the biggest, most popular, live-action movie that was made on the Lord of the Rings was made in 2001 (The Fellowship of the Ring). The next movie in the series (The Two Towers) was made in 2002, and the final movie (The Return of the King) was made in 2003.

The Fellowship of the Ring began filming in New Zealand on October 11, 1999. The film premiered in the UK on December 10th, 2001. The US release of the film was on December 19th, 2001.
