Kids that age don't have any idea about what real music is, they just listen to the radio. Because the large record labels pay ridiculous amounts of money to get their songs on the radio 3 or 4 times an hour, these kids think that the music is "good" because they don't know any better. As they get older they start to develop their own tastes in music and will branch out.
