Josiah B. Gould has written: 'The philosophy of Chrysippus' -- subject(s): Chrysippus, the Stoic, d. 479
One of the most famous jokes attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Chrysippus is about a donkey eating figs. The joke goes like this: "A donkey was eating figs and someone asked him if he wanted some wine to go with them. The donkey replied, 'No, I prefer them plain.'" This joke has been passed down through history as an example of Chrysippus' wit and humor.
Chrysippus, an ancient Greek philosopher, is known for his Stoic beliefs. One notable quote that exemplifies his philosophy is "No man is free who is not master of himself." This reflects the Stoic emphasis on self-control and inner strength. Another quote by Chrysippus is "It is not events that disturb people, it is their judgments concerning them." This highlights the Stoic idea that our reactions to events, rather than the events themselves, determine our happiness and well-being.
The Greek philosopher Chrysippus is said to have died laughing at a donkey eating figs.
It's plato or sacraties. I don't really know.
Oedipus's fate was fixed before his birth. oedipus' father king Laius abducted Chrysippus son of Pelops. So he cursed Laius to be killed by his own son and the boy would marry his own mother. pelops was the king of Pisa.
The House of Labdacus is the family line of Oedipus, King of Thebes. The curse stems from the actions of Oedipus' father, Laius, who was invited into the home of Pelops, king of Pisa, and then raped and abducted Chrysippus, the son of Pelops. Oedipus' story is well known -- he killed his father and married his mother without realizing that either of them were related to him. In turn, at least three of his four children die tragically (there is some question as to how Ismene died).
n Greek mythology, Thyestes (Θυέστης) was the son of Pelops, King of Olympia, and Hippodamia and father of Pelopia and Aegisthus. Thyestes and his twin brother, Atreus, were exiled by their father for having murdered their half-brother, Chrysippus in their desire for the throne of Olympia. Pelops' sons include Pittheus, Troezen, Alcathous, Dimoetes, Pleisthenes, Atreus, Thyestes, Copreus, Hippalcimus, Cleones and Letreus. Pelops and Hippodameia also had several daughters, some of whom married into the House of Perseus, such as Astydameia (who married Alcaeus), Nicippe (who married Sthenelus), and Eurydice (who married Electryon) and Lysidike. By the nymph Axioche, Pelops was father of Chrysippus.
