The Sony Walkman was invented in 1979 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita of the Sony Corporation. The product line's history began with the first cassette Walkman TPS-L2 that changed the way consumers listen to music.
According to reports, the first walkman was developed by Nobutoshi Kihara, who was an audio engineer at Sony in the year 1978. It was created for personal use for Akio Morita who served as company's co-chairman then. The executive requested Kihara to develop a portable music player that he can use to listen to classical songs during his trips. After being impressed with the product's efficiency and performance, the company planned to introduce the product to the general public. The first batch of Sony Walkman was released in Japan in 1979.
The device was built in 1978 by audio-division engineer Nobutoshi Kihara for Sony co-chairman Akio Morita, who wanted to be able to listen to operas during his frequent trans- pacific plane trips. The original Walkman was marketed in 1979 as the Walkman in Japan, the Soundabout in many other countries including the US, Freestyle in Sweden and the Stowaway in the UK.[Morita hated the name "Walkman" and asked that it be changed, but relented after being told by junior executives that a promotion campaign had already begun using the brand name and that it would be too expensive to change.

Pantech Matrix i personally have the sont ericsson walkman great phone but after a few months (9 for me) the keys begin to show signs of cracking Im a big texter most of the time. But if your a big texter, the matrix. Matrix has a few flaws like the screen comes of after a month or so but other than that i think its a better pick. even though i still love my walkman. Most pantech phones last 1 year or so. walkmans you can get repaired or replaced for free if you have att so Matrix if you were me....only reason i got the walkman is because the matrix wasnt out yet!
