They became a band in 1960. They effectively broke up in 1969, although they officially broke up in 1973. They (sort of) reformed in 1994 to add backing to some demo tracks recorded by John Lennon in the 1970s.
The Beatles were an English rock band, and are often seen as the pioneers of rock and roll. The band officially formed in 1960.
Paul McCartney joined John Lennon's band the Quarrymen in 1957. George Harrison joined the following year. They were renamed the Beatles in 1960. Ringo Starr joined in 1962.
The Beatles started out as The Quarrymen, in 1957, But the Beatles name was made up in 1960.
The Beatles technically started in 1957 when John Lennon started a band called 'The QuarryMen' and then allowed Paul McCartney to join the same year. Up until 1962 however, they weren't a real band until they got a manager and signed up for a record deal. So here is a list of the key events that happened to the beatles on each year:
1962 - The Beatles get a record company and release their first single.
1963 - They gaine fame around the UK and some of Europe, as well as release two albums and three other singles.
1964 - America falls down to the Beatles, as they gain worldwide fame seemingly overnight, as well as releasing two singles and albums.
1965 - Second movie is released, as well as several more tours around the world and two more albums - also notable as the year their music begins to change a touch.
1966 - Whilst only two singles and one albums, this year see's The beatles permanently stop touring and also see's a great musical spike in their music, as it gets more interesting and detailed.
1967 - The year of love, with Sgt Pepper becoming one of the greatest albums ever, as well as the band appearing on the first worldwide broadcast around the world. They release a self-filmed and directed film at the end of the year, which is sort of a fall in quality.
1968 - Another year of great creativity for the Beatles, as after a little time in a reclusive camp in India produce a double album at the end of the year, as well as an animated film.
1969 - Time to go on the roof-top, as well as releasing 'Abbey Road'. This is the year where they begin to break up over musical differences mainly, and that they needed to try something new.
1970 - The last release by the Beatles (a single and an album), and the last recording session is on early January 1970.
1971 - The band is offically dissolved.
1976 - The contract between them and their manager is terminated.
The band that would become the Beatles started in 1957 as a school band founded by John Lennon. Later that year Paul McCartney joined and in 1958 George Harrison joined. Lennon's friend from art college, Stuart Sutcliffe, joined around the same time. The band went through a succession of drummers - and quite a long time without a drummer at all ("the rhythm's in the Guitars." was what they told the audience) before Pete Best joined around 1960. Stuart Sutcliffe left the band in 1960 - he was no musician and for 2 years the line up was John, Paul, George and Pete Best. Pete was fired in 1962 and Ringo replaced him.
