Voldemort came to her hidden Godric Hollow home to kill her son Harry. She sacrificed her own life to save Harry's. In turn she evoked an ancient magic that protected Harry from Voldemort up through his fourth year at Hogwarts. Harry later named his daughter, Lily Luna after her.
