The Declaration of Independence was greatly influenced by john Locke. But this isn't the only thing he is famous for. Locke, the English philosopher had a huge impact on the social contract and liberal theories and on the development of both epistemology and physical philosophy. His ideology is reflected in the American Declaration of Independence. His concepts of identity later influenced Rousseau and Voltaire, along with many other Enlightenment scholars and American Revolutionaries.
John Locke was a 17th century philosopher, who influenced modern political thought. Thomas Jefferson was heavily influenced by him. The line "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" originally appeared in John Locke's Second Treatise on Government as "life, liberty and property."
