On February 4, 1983, less than a month before her thirty-third birthday, Carpenter suffered heart failure at her parents' home in Downey, California. She was taken to Downey Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead twenty minutes later. The LA coroner gave the cause of death as "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa." Her divorce was scheduled to have been finalized that day. The autopsy stated that Carpenter's death was the result of emetine cardiotoxicity due to anorexia nervosa. Under the anatomical summary, the first item was heart failure, with anorexia as second. The third finding was cachexia, which is extremely low weight and weakness and general body decline associated with chronic disease. Emetine cardio toxicity implies that Carpenter abused ipecac syrup, an easily obtained emetic medicine that is only meant to be taken by persons who have accidentally swallowed poison.
She essentially starved herself to death, trying to stay thin-, even though she was already underweight- a victim of anorexia.
Miss Carpenter died of anorexia nervosa, sometimes called ( Chuck Horrors) i.e. a revulsion towards food ( Chuck used in that sense), or more bluntly- Starvicide, a blend word of starvation and suicide. It was certainly not a religious fast!
Karen Anne Carpenter, drummer/singer, was born on March 2, 1950 in New Haven, Connecticut. She died on February 4, 1983, (in Downey, California), from cardiac arrest (heart failure) after many years of suffering from anorexia nervosa. She was 32 years, 11 months old; one month shy of her 33rd birthday.
The bodies of Karen, Harold and Agnes Carpenter were moved from Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincoln Avenue, Cyprus California, to Pierce Brothers Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA. They were moved when Richard Carpenter, and family, moved from Downey, CA to Thousand Oaks, CA. It's a few minutes from Thousand Oaks to Westlake Village.
You have made a mistake. It is not Karen The Carpenter, who had carpentry (wood working) jobs; it is Karen Anne Carpenter (1950 - 1983) one of the musical group, The Carpenters. Karen A. Carpenter was a drummer/singer in the group until she died from cardiac arrest (heart failure) due to anorexia nervosa.
In 1980, she married real estate developer Thomas J. Burris. However, the unhappy marriage really only lasted a year before they separated. So, she never had kids and died at age 32 from anorexia.

Karen Anne Carpenter was first a drummer, then she became a singer. She could play the drums and sing at the same time. Karen was an excellent drummer and she was an outstanding singer. Karen Carpenter was probably the best woman drummer/singer who ever lived! Karen could also play the bass guitar. She was not a composer. She did not write any songs. All of the songs Karen sang (and/or played the drums for) were written by someone else.
