Karen's Theme. It's written by her brother, Richard Carpenter. He wrote it for the film, The Karen Carpenter Story, made back in 1988.
Karen-lead Richard (her brother)-piano and arrangements
Richard Lynn Carpenter did not like the songs on Karen Carpenter's solo album, [and he felt Phil Ramone's songs sounded too much like over dubbed Carpenters songs, (although Richard Carpenter was greatly influenced by the over dubbing of Les Paul and Mary Ford)]. Richard Carpenter did not do anything to keep the solo album from being released in 1980,however, he did not do anything, (on behalf of his sister), to get it released in 1980. He did spend some money and effort to get it finally released in 1996, sixteen years after it was first submitted to A & M for release, (and 13 years after Karen died on Feb. 4, 1983).
No. Karen Carpenter was first a drummer, then she was a singer. She was not a songwriter. Every song she sang and/or played the drums for, was written by someone else. All of the solo songs she recorded with Phil Ramone between 1979 - 1980 (while Richard Carpenter was kicking his quaalude addiction), were written by someone else.
