Fun Fact:
J.R.R. Tolkien were close friends with C.S. Lewis (the author of Narnia).
Their friendship really took off a year later when Tolkien invited Lewis to join a literary group known as "the Coalbiters." The group got together every week to read Icelandic epics in the original Old Norse language. These meetings inevitably led to a perusal of Tolkien's pet writing projects by Lewis, and vice versa. The timing could not have been much better, as both men were experiencing sweeping self-doubts about their respective writing abilities at the time, and may have otherwise kept their writing a private hobby. Tolkien having a hand in Lewis's return to Christianity bore its fruit in the Narnia series, and in return, Lewis prodded Tolkien relentlessly until he completed The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
It could easily be said that neither author would have earned the reputation they have today if not for their shared friendship. But did you know that J.R.R. Tolkien even based one of his characters on C.S. Lewis? Treebeard, the leader of the walking trees known as "Ents," shares many of Lewis's mannerisms, such as a booming voice and a constant throat-clearing habit. The deep camaraderie the duo shared is probably best summarized in a letter from Tolkien to his daughter following Lewis's death in 1963: "So far I have felt the normal feelings of a man my age -- like an old tree that is losing all its leaves one by one: this feels like an axe-blow near the roots."
Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
In the book, the Hobbits return to the shire to find that it has been conquered by Saruman the wizard and his men. They proceeed to organize the hobbits and liberate the Shire. Sam marries his girlfriend Rose and becomes Mayor of the Shire; Merry and Pippin also community leaders. Frodo however suffers from the wounds he received on the journey and eventually leaves the Shire with Gandalf and the Elves when they travel across the Sea to the new lands. The story ends there.
In the book, Frodo bought the house called Crickhollow in Buckland, which was already outside the Shire, across the Brandywine River then he and Sam cut through the old private gate and the High Hay into the Old Forest. In the movie, Bucklebury Ferry, which crosses the Brandywine River, to get to the Prancing Pony to see Gandalf.
It is a 4 part tattoo across his fingers reading "IC XC NI KA" which means "Jesus Christ is victorious" in the Greek Orthodox Church.
hobbits like to eat alot and they eat alot of potatoes :) read the books and it will tell you... (the 2nd book)Hobbits enjoy bright colors on their clothes (e.g. yellow, green, blue) and most all of them are quite fond of a good afternoon pipe. They love to gossip about the goings on of the Shire, and they adore birthday parties. Usually, about four birthday parties are going on in just one week, at which the host gives away presents to all of his guests (unlike our birthday parties nowadays...). In Fellowship of the Ring, we get a good glimpse of what a hobbit's birthday party is like (Frodo's and Bilbo's, to be exact); mirthful and merry, with plenty of music, dancing and laughter, and lots to eat and drink.Because above all else, what hobbits truly love most is food. They love to eat. A hobbit has six meals a day; breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, and supper - not to mention a few snacks in between. If you have seen the movie production of Fellowship of the Ring, you might remember Merry and Pippin sneaking into farmer Maggot's crops and getting away with carrots and corn, among other vegetables. Later on in the film, the four hobbits stumble across a patch of mushrooms in the path, and are thrown into a state of ecstasy. Even in The Two Towers, in a conversation between Sam and Gollum, we learn that one of Sam's favorite foods are potates (or "taters"), which he dearly misses.

There is more than one aswer. 'The Hobbit', 'The Silmarillion', and 'The Lord of the Rings' are three. There are other works that mention them - 'Unfinished Tales' is one - but these are the main ones.
Hobbits are the main characters because they're simple people and Tolkein wanted to show the world of Middle Earth through the eyes of someone who had never travelled across their world before.

There are hundreds of characters across HorseIsle. It would be impossible to list them all here! You can see the NPCs (characters) in various buildings across the world.
