Survived by his five children, James Thaine, Anne (Chuck Maskiell) Sergent, Elaine Thaine, Roger (Lori Ricci) Thaine & Ron (Mary Jane) Thaine; his grandchildren, Christine Sergent, Roger Thaine, Jr, Stephen Thaine, Andy Maskiell, Jennifer Thaine, and Christopher Thaine; his sister-in-law, Janice Thaine; his brother-in-law, Gus (Barbara) Revelas; and many nieces & nephews.Berl’s visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, Rochester (between 390 & Long Pond Rd). After graduating from Albion High School, he entered the United States Army in September 1942. Military service took him to the Asia/Pacific Theatre, including India and in the jungles of Burma with Merrill's Marauders. He left the Army in 1945 with many accommodations, including the Bronze Star.Upon completing an apprenticeship as a millwright, he became employed at Eastman Kodak Company and he continued as a master millwright until his retirement in 1982.Berl was a lifelong Boy Scout for over 80 years, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, participating in the Order of the Arrow and receiving many awards, including the Silver Beaver, Founders and Lifetime Achievement. A love of camping brought him around the world, from Camp Cutler to Philmont, NM, to jamborees as far away as Australia. He shared his love of scouting with the Canadians in Hands Across the Border. He will be remembered as an inspiration to many in the organization.As a loving father, grandfather, and friend, he enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories by the campfire at Allegheny and boating on Canandaigua Lake. In the community, he dedicated his time to St. Lawrence Church, as an usher and in the Men's Club. All who knew him will dearly miss his sparkling blue eyes and fun-loving nature.The family would like to thank his previous caregiver, Zella, and the staff of Woodside Manor Nursing Home and Hospice at Highland Hospital for their loving care.
