There are no arguments in chapter 1: the Sound of the Shell. Jack makes a few statements which are at odds with other boys and disagrees with some points but he doesn't argue about anything. His biggest contention in chapter 1 is over who should be leader, when he suggests himself but is out voted by the majority of boys who favour Ralph.

During the assembly in chapter eight Jack says... "And the next thing is that Ralph said my hunters are no good" He later further embroiders his lie by adding, "Ralph thinks you're cowards, running away from the boar and the beast."

Jack tells his newly formed tribe that they will forget the beast, that they aren't going to bother about it. He also tells them that they are near the end of the island where they won't dream as much. Then Jack informs them that he wants to attract more of the biguns away from Ralph and the conch so he intends to hunt a pig and hold a feast.

He tells the assembled boys a lie when he proclaims, "And the next thing is that Ralph said my hunters are no good." He also lies when he says, "Ralph thinks that you're cowards, running away from the boar and the beast."
