I prefer a variety of different types of music. Folk Music is one of my favorites, in addition to bluegrass and older rock. The nice thing about music is that different types can appeal to different people.

In general, people listen to the kind of music they like. This can range from rap to rock to country to heavy metal to jazz to hip hop to pop; the list goes on.
Personally I enjoy any kind of music. Simply because all music has certain aspects that other genres may not and I like to listen to those key aspects to hear what makes that type so great or different. And what tricks they used in their songs to give it that sound and creativity. Although I love to listen to most classic rock songs the most just because that sound to me is the greatest!
I think you will get a wide range of opinions, since we have people from all over the world who answer these questions. Some people might say "Anything that has a catchy tune" or "anything that is a hit song." But others have more specific tastes-- like folk music, or jazz, or rap, or rock and roll. And for some of us, the kind of music we listen to depends on our mood-- sometimes, I feel like listening to something very light and danceable, while at other times, I want something which has a more serious message to it. As a former radio disc jockey, I had to play all kinds of songs, so I can find songs that I like in just about every musical genre, and I am sure I'm not alone in having eclectic tastes.

I would say that the majority of young people listen to electronic/House/Dub Music, I am 18 years old and i'd count myself to this majority. Most of my friends don't listen to instrumental music like "Red hot Chili Peppers" or stuff.. they prefer the latest remix of this new rihanna-whatever feat. song.. It kinda annoys me, because i love to listen to all kind of music (except Metal). It simply depends on in which mood i am at the moment.. if i want to have a nice evening with a girl, i prefer Jazz or normal Songs (for example Christina Perri or Adele) All in all i don't think you can generalize this big part of each of our's lives, and say that this music is "right" or "wrong". Music isn't about who listens to it the most often or which kind of music is the most popular.. it is simply about feeling the rhythm, getting into a good mood by listening to it.
