Madara's previous/past apparence however has been confirmed and shown in both the manga and the series during a flashback in his explanation to the Leaf-Village's plight and Itachi's betrayal, where we saw him with long black.
In short, we won't know for sure, what Madara looks like at present, until someone actually removes his swirlly mask.
