Ralph's daydreams inevitably involve home, in happier times when he was younger. Ralph is deeply homesick and wants more than anything to be rescued and to return home. In chapter 7: Shadows and Tall Trees the boys are making there way from castle rock towards the mountain. When they pause for a while Ralph drifts into a daydream about a cottage he once stayed in on the edge of the moor. He remembered the wild ponies which used to come to the garden wall and could visualise laying in a shed in the garden and watching snow falling. Ralph recalled having cornflakes with sugar and cream in bed and the shelf full of familiar books next to the bed.
