You know, I had the same thought. I kept waiting at the end for the explanation that she was the one who, in her haste, caused the accident. Remember the guy asking where the tire tracks for the other car could be found? It really seemed to me like at the end of the move when she was sitting in the ambulance that she realized she caused the whole thing somehow, but it was never developed.
