Possibly, though it sounds like a female dog. The Magic came from some sort of magical ring that Dave Douglas ( the dog-man) inadvertenly donned or was given at a museum. hence- woof woof.
In the Dashiell Hammett stories the Thin Man's dog was a female Schnauzer called Asta. They kept the name because the stories were so popular but the best dog star at the time was a male Wire Fox named Skippy. So he became Asta.
I could only think of one off-hand. A cowardly man or animal named courage, or having the nickname courage Political courage
Courage the Cowardly Dog is an animated television show, which cancelled, a while ago. Courage is a dog, that tries to save his " owners ", Muriel Bagge, a very kind old woman who loves Courage, and Eustace Bagge, a very grumpy and mean old man who doesn't really like Courage, from dangers other people who want to hurt the old couple. Courage always tries his best to save Muriel and Eustace every time, and succeeds. In some cases, people also try to " hurt " Courage, but yet again, fails, because if somebody just killed Courage in an episode, there wouldn't be a television series. Anyways, Courage and his family, literally live in Nowhere, Kansas, or as they like to call it, The Middle Of Nowhere. Courage the Cowardly Dog is a funny and dark animated TV series, and one of my all time favorites TV shows cancelled.
A cowardly man runs from danger.
The Cowardly Lion is looking for courage, The Tin Man is looking for a heart, and the Scarecrow is looking for a brain.
Colonel Sherburn views the average man as cowardly and lacking in moral courage. He believes that most people are quick to judge others but are unwilling to stand up for what they believe in themselves. Sherburn values integrity and courage, qualities he feels are often lacking in the average man.

Oh, dude, in The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy meets the Scarecrow first, then the Tin Man, and finally the Cowardly Lion. It's like a weird, twisted version of speed dating, but with way more singing and dancing. So, if you ever find yourself in a magical land with talking animals, just remember the order: Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion.
