The first film to use all cgi (except for some cahracters) was "TRON" (by Disney) in 1982. Tron was a combination of animation and CGI.

CGI animation already gives off a 3D look. 3D animation wouldn't be successful without traditional animation.
Conventional animation is without the benefit of CGI graphics and utilises traditional animation using hand-drawn cels .
CGI animation is easier as someone can generate motion quite fast.
To find a career in animation, one must be talented with traditional hand drawn animations and computer animation or CGI. One must also have a talent in storytelling.

CGI animation can be used to create more realistic textures, and accurate reproduction models of real actors or actresses. CGI can be used as a replacement for stunt work, which can make it a lot safer for actors (or stunt doubles), since they do not have to perform dangerous tasks.
