Mixing, in music, generally means creating an equal balance between instruments in a song and sculpting a song to have a certain feel. This involves careful adjustments of the levels of instruments and EQ.

A mix down is basically mixing down all of the individual instrument (or vocal) tracks down into one song. When the music is recorded there are tracks for every instrument and vocal part. The mixing process is adding any effects or processing, and mixing all of the levels so that nothing is too loud or soft in the mix. Once a track has been mixed it should pretty much be a song that you would assume to hear on a cd. Then it is sent to mastering to add the final touches making it commercially ready.

mixing a song actually means mixing the the tracks that create the song. in a song or a musical partition, every enstrument record to a channel apart from others. one by one every enstrument or digital effects put several channels. after recording is complete mixing the song happens. every channel must be controlled and calculated by several variables like level, gain, bass, treble etc. this operation is called as mixing.
