Kiba Inuzuka is a character from Naruto. The Inuzuka clan is a clan that raises dogs as their partners for combat. For example, most of Kiba's jutsus are performed with his beloved dog, friend and partner, Akamaru. Members of the Inuzuka clan get very attached to their dogs, and Akamaru isn't only a "tool" for Kiba, he is his best friend.

Inuzuka, or 犬塚 when used in reference to the clan in the Naruto anime and manga series, roughly translates to "dog mound," where "mound" is the word used to indicate burial sites or homes of some creatures, like ants (and anthills). It does not mean "house" or "clan," as some sites state; the Japanese word for "family/clan," is 属 (zoku), not "zuka." In order for the character to have a "z" sound, it is written out (in Hiragana) like so: づか, (tzuka, or duka) rather than ずか (zuka), the more common character for the "zu" sound.

The name belongs to a clan which was one of the most powerful in the Chiba Prefecture in Japan during the Edo period. They were known as "dog warriors" and worshiped Inu ("Dog"), a deity representing the zodiac sign of the dog.

The name "Inuzuka" also originates from the Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, a 19th-century series of novels about a group of samurai brothers who each embodied the eight fundamental principles of Buddhism.
